New export markets lift US agriculture
Rollins argues the tariff renegotiation is short-term pain but a long-term win for American agriculture. She says US product is treated badly abroad - Argentina on beef, Brazil on corn, the UK on pork - and that the ag trade balance went from roughly zero under Trump's first term to a $50 billion deficit under Biden, money she says comes straight out of farmers' pockets. Her answer is market access: she personally is travelling to India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Peru and the UK over the next few months on behalf of agriculture, separate from the trade and commerce teams, and she says she feels so bullish that this push, combined with the president's America-first realignment of the world economy, opens enough new markets to carry farmers into a new era of prosperity.
